I had last week off work. Sods law dictated therefore that I would succumb to a cold and spend much of the week feeling lousy and lying down. I think this bug had been lurking the previous week too, as I didn’t feel very well the day before the MK half-marathon, but I assume my resistance gave up the ghost after the exertions of that race.
As a result, my planned weekly mileage of around 60 miles ended up being 48. The good news is that this did include a 22.7 mile run on the Sunday (just over 2hr 45m - 7:17/mile pace) which went very well. I’ve now completed 5 runs of 19 miles or more in the last 11 weeks with just one more to go next Sunday. Next week is my final week before the 3-week taper and I’m hoping to complete around 60 miles.
Nike Milton Keynes Half-marathon postscript
My time of 01:19:09 was my second performance that has met the new (Jan 2009) UK Athletics (UKA) Male Vet 45-49 rankings standard (the previous being my 17:18 5km last December). The HM time also qualifies for an Open Standard UKA ranking, which is very pleasing. I hope to meet UKA MV45 ranking standards for all other race-distances by the end of 2010.
The table to the right shows the minimum standards required to get a UKA ranking.
