Mostly flat Fenland route and over quiet lanes (some long and very straight!) for the most part. Small (450 finishers) race, no chip-timing. Well organised and marshaled and a nice atmosphere. Baggage storage available. Plenty of parking on school playing field right next to HQ (Witchford near Ely in Cambs).
I was pleased that it was quite cool, but there was a very strong wind for several long stretches of the race. Being in the Fens meant that there was no respite from the full force of these gusts! This put the mockers on mile-splits and I think cost me about 40 secs. Nonetheless, after running strictly within my favoured HM HR zone (rather than to a target pace), I was pleased to set a new PB (by 9s) of 01:21:27. Hopefully, this is evidence that I am rising out of my recent mini-slump.

Statto (with trademark shades and headband!) at the halfway point
Nice trademark sunnies & headband, but am sure the addition of the swim cap would have shaved an extra couple of secs off your time....
ReplyDeleteStatto and anything related to swimming do not mix!
